Best MLB Starting Rotations for 2026: Full Top 10 Rankings

A great rotation is the foundation of a successful season. The best starting staffs in 2026 do not just feature a couple of All-Stars at the top, they combine elite arms with real depth.

Ranking the top MLB rotations in 2026 is not just about the five starters on Opening Day. It is a judgment of the depth an organization possesses and how well it can withstand injuries or missed starts from its ace.

With that in mind, here are the top 10 MLB rotations entering the 2026 season.

1. Dodgers

Los Angeles Dodgers Logo

2025 rotation ERA: 3.69 (5th)

2025 rotation K-BB%: 16.1% (5th)

2025 rotation xERA: 3.80 (2nd)

Health is the only thing that could keep the Dodgers from the top spot.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Shohei Ohtani, Roki Sasaki, Blake Snell, and Tyler Glasnow are an unrivaled quintet. All five have Cy Young-level upside, and they showed in the postseason how dominant they can be together.

Los Angeles also has Emmet Sheehan, who posted a 2.82 ERA in 2025, along with several other talented young arms to cover innings.

The upside of this rotation is as high as any in baseball, and it is clearly the best staff in the league entering the season.

2. Tigers

Detroit Lions Logo

2025 rotation ERA: 3.91 (11th)

2025 rotation K-BB%: 17.5% (2nd)

2025 rotation xERA: 3.88 (5th)

Even with Reese Olson undergoing shoulder surgery, the Tigers still have an elite rotation. Late in the offseason, Detroit made two blockbuster moves to acquire Framber Valdez and Justin Verlander.

Depth Charts has Detroit rated as the second-best rotation in MLB. Casey Mize, Jack Flaherty, Valdez, and Verlander are each projected in the roughly 1.7 to 3.6 fWAR range. Tarik Skubal is the clear favorite for the AL Cy Young after another historically great season.

Detroit’s underlying numbers suggest they were a bit unlucky to finish only 11th in rotation ERA last year. This could be the best starting staff in the American League.

3. Mariners

Seattle Seahawks Logo

2025 rotation ERA: 3.97 (13th)

2025 rotation K-BB%: 17.0% (3rd )

2025 rotation xERA: 4.03 (9th)

Seattle has the deepest five-man rotation in the big leagues. Depth Charts curiously ranks the Mariners’ staff ninth, largely because they do not have a true ace with a Cy Young-caliber projection.

Bryan Woo leads the group at 3.5 fWAR. Luis Castillo, George Kirby, Logan Gilbert, and Bryce Miller are all projected between roughly 1.6 and 3.3 fWAR. Gilbert and Woo have the upside to reach the 5.0 range, and it is well within reason that four members of this group produce All-Star level seasons.

This is also a relatively young rotation with solid recent injury histories. That durability is part of the appeal, as Seattle’s starters are likely to log more innings than most of their competitors, including the Dodgers.

4. Reds

Cincinnati Bengals Logo

2025 rotation ERA: 3.85 (9th)

2025 rotation K-BB%: 16.5% (4th)

2025 rotation xERA: 3.84 (3rd)

Did the Reds’ rotation get overlooked despite a playoff appearance in 2025? It certainly seems that way.

Cincinnati ranked in the top four in both xERA and K-BB%. Only a handful of National League starters are better than Hunter Greene. Brady Singer, Andrew Abbott, Nick Lodolo, and hard-throwing Chase Burns form a more than sufficient supporting cast.

It is not far-fetched that all five post ERAs under 4.00 in 2026. The ceiling of this Reds staff is extremely high.

5. Yankees

New York Yankees Logo

2025 rotation ERA: 3.61 (4th)

2025 rotation K-BB%: 14.3% (16th)

2025 rotation xERA: 3.90 (7th)

The Yankees have strength in numbers. Max Fried is an elite arm, and they also have a pair of exciting young starters in Cam Schlittler and Will Warren. Ryan Weathers was a smart addition.

Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón, and Clarke Schmidt are all at different stages of post-surgery recovery. Cole likely will not be at his peak, but there is a realistic path for him to pitch to an ERA in the 3.80 range.

Rodón just had his best season since 2022. The Yankees have more margin for error than most teams thanks to having as many as seven serviceable starters at their disposal.

6. Rangers

Texas Rangers Logo

2025 rotation ERA: 3.41 (1st)

2025 rotation K-BB%: 15.5% (8th)

2025 rotation xERA: 4.14 (12th)

Adding MacKenzie Gore to the rotation that led the majors in ERA made the Rangers a difficult team to rank. Their ERA was excellent, but they were only 12th in xERA, and there are real questions about how many starts they will get from Jacob deGrom and Nathan Eovaldi.

Jack Leiter (107 Stuff+ in 2025) can elevate this group into the top five if he improves his command. It does not appear that Kumar Rocker will be anything more than a fifth starter.

This group likely has the lowest floor of any team in these rankings. Texas could easily end up as a below-average rotation.

7. Blue Jays

Toronto Blue Jays Logo

2025 rotation ERA: 4.34 (20th)

2025 rotation K-BB%: 15.9% (10th)

2025 rotation xERA: 4.51 (23rd)

Adding Dylan Cease and Cody Ponce, and bringing back Shane Bieber, makes for an impressive offseason for Toronto’s rotation. The trio joins Trey Yesavage and Kevin Gausman, with José Berríos available to step in when needed.

Is it a stretch to put the Blue Jays seventh? Perhaps. The K-BB% was encouraging, but the rotation as a whole was underwhelming last year.

A lot has changed, though, with Yesavage starring in the postseason, Ponce coming off a dominant year in the KBO, and Cease still boasting elite stuff numbers.

8. Orioles

Baltimore Ravens Logo

2025 rotation ERA: 4.65 (24th)

2025 rotation K-BB%: 13.4% (21st)

                                     2025 rotation xERA: 4.59 (25th)

Forget Baltimore’s ugly 2025 numbers. Kyle Bradish, Trevor Rogers, and Zach Eflin combined for only 38 starts. Eflin struggled, but he has a track record as a more than solid pitcher, posting a 110 ERA+ from 2020 through 2024. Bradish, when healthy, is an All-Star caliber arm. Rogers posted a 2.82 FIP in 2025.

The Orioles also added Chris Bassitt and Shane Baz. Bassitt is a reliable innings eater coming off a strong run in Toronto. Baz had a difficult 2025, but he added a knuckle curve that grades as elite.

There is a downside scenario where Baltimore is once again held back by its rotation. That said, this group has the talent to be a top-10 unit and could even push toward the top five.

9. Red Sox

Boston Red Sox Logo

2025 rotation ERA: 3.92 (12th)

2025 rotation K-BB%: 13.7% (20th)

2025 rotation xERA: 4.34 (17th)

Sonny Gray and Ranger Suárez are big-time upgrades for the Red Sox. Garrett Crochet once again projects to be in the Cy Young mix, while Gray, Suárez, and Brayan Bello form a formidable two-through-four.

A lack of upside is what kept the Red Sox from ranking higher. Depth Charts projects Boston as the top rotation in baseball, but that likely reflects a relatively narrow range of outcomes.

It would take a major breakout from Bello or another arm for the Red Sox to truly push into the top five. Still, if healthy, this group should at least be above average.

10. Pirates

Pittsburgh Steelers Logo

2025 rotation ERA: 3.71 (6th)

2025 rotation K-BB%: 14.4% (13th)

2025 rotation xERA: 4.09 (11th)

Paul Skenes, Mitch Keller, Braxton Ashcraft, and Bubba Chandler could form a top-three rotation. Jared Jones is also expected to return in 2026 after an impressive, albeit shortened, rookie campaign.

Ranking Pittsburgh 10th could age very poorly. This might be overly cautious, but it reflects the uncertainty with this group. We simply have not seen enough yet to know what Ashcraft and Chandler will be at the big-league level.

If Jones were fully healthy, it would be easier to place the Pirates above the Red Sox and Orioles. For now, there are still too many questions to rank this rotation any higher, despite the undeniable talent.
