MLS Power Rankings After Matchday 11: San Jose, Vancouver Lead the Way

The latest Major League Soccer matchday delivered drama, momentum swings, and a clearer picture of the league hierarchy. With 15 games played across Saturday and Sunday, the weekend featured statement performances, surprising setbacks, and several tightly contested results. Our updated MLS Power Rankings reflect recent form, quality of play, head-to-head, and overall movement in the standings. Here is where every club stands following Matchday 11.

1. San Jose Earthquakes

The Earthquakes continue to set the pace in the Western Conference with 28 points through 11 matches. Even after a 1-1 draw against Toronto, San Jose remains remarkably steady at 9W-1D-1L. Few clubs are controlling games as effectively on both ends, with 26 goals scored and only seven conceded. They also tout a +19 goal differential. Right now, no team in MLS is more complete.

2. Vancouver Whitecaps

The Whitecaps are a legitimate Supporters’ Shield threat. A draw against the Galaxy did little to slow a club that has overwhelmed opponents with speed, movement, and finishing quality throughout the opening months.

3. Nashville SC

Nashville’s scoreless draw against Philadelphia wasn’t exactly thrilling theatre, but it fit the identity of this group perfectly. They concede very little, stay organized, and rarely give opponents clean looks around goal.

4. New England Revolution

A narrow win over Charlotte pushed New England further up the Eastern Conference table. This squad does not always dominate stylistically, but it has become increasingly comfortable grinding out results in tight spots.

5. LAFC

LAFC still flashes some of the highest upside in the league, though the back line creates unnecessary stress. Their 2-2 draw against San Diego felt like another one where the attack had to compensate for defensive lapses.

6. Minnesota United

Minnesota’s 3-2 road win over Columbus was one of the most impressive performances of the weekend. The Loons continue to play aggressively going forward and look better in open matches than many expected entering the year.

7. Atlanta United

Atlanta finally rediscovered some rhythm in a 3-1 win over Montréal. The attack played with tempo, and the overall energy level seemed  much closer to what supporters expected entering the season.

8. Orlando City

Orlando produced the wildest result of the weekend, rallying for a 4-3 win over Inter Miami. Few teams in MLS are more dangerous when contests become stretched and chaotic, and Orlando fully embraced that environment Sunday.

9. Austin FC

Austin handled St. Louis in a 2-0 victory. The defensive shape has tightened considerably in recent weeks, while transition opportunities create enough offense to secure points consistently.

10. Houston Dynamo

Houston will not earn many style points for a 1-0 win over Colorado, but they’ll take it. The Dynamo remain firmly in the Western Conference playoff mix and continue to lean on discipline over flair.

11. Dallas

Dallas earned a deserved road victory against the Red Bulls. The offense found space far more consistently than usual, and the back line dealt well with New York’s pressure throughout the second half.

12. FC Cincinnati

Cincinnati’s 3-2 win in Chicago added another productive road performance to a growing collection. This side generates enough quality chances to survive even when defensive stretches become shaky.

13. Real Salt Lake

RSL responded well after a frustrating run of results, beating Portland 2-0. The match felt significantly steadier than several of their recent outings, particularly in midfield.

14. D.C. United

D.C. United delivered one of the weekend’s bigger surprises with a 2-0 road win over NYCFC. The club has looked sharper lately and is beginning to play with greater confidence away from home.

15. Seattle Sounders

Seattle remains difficult to break down, but too many games are drifting toward draws instead of wins. A point at Kansas City keeps them stable in the standings without doing much to raise their ceiling.

16. Inter Miami

The loss to Orlando was messy, though Miami still possesses enough attacking talent to flip momentum quickly. Matches involving this group rarely stay quiet for long.

17. Columbus Crew

Columbus slides again after another disappointing home loss. The Crew still control possession well, but the sharpness that defined previous versions of this club has faded over the past few weeks.

18. Philadelphia Union

Philadelphia played exactly the kind of game Nashville wanted, ending in a scoreless draw. The Union are difficult to play through, but the offense still lacks creativity in the final third.

19. LA Galaxy

The Galaxy are hovering around the middle of the league. Their draw against Vancouver showed competitiveness, though there still feels like another level this roster has yet to reach.

20. San Diego FC

A draw against LAFC represented another encouraging result for the expansion side. San Diego has handled the jump to MLS better than many expected and continues to look comfortable against established opponents.

21. Sporting Kansas City

Sporting KC split points with Seattle in a match that never really opened up. There were stretches of encouraging possession play, but not enough cutting edge around goal.

22. Toronto FC

Toronto earned a respectable point against San Jose, though the broader picture hasn’t changed. The effort level is there, but the roster still lacks the firepower of the league’s upper tier.

23. New York Red Bulls

The Red Bulls never found control in their loss to Dallas. Too many possessions broke down before becoming meaningful scoring opportunities.

24. Chicago Fire

Chicago continues to compete hard, but the defensive issues are difficult to ignore. Conceding three goals at home against Cincinnati only reinforced those concerns.

25. Charlotte FC

Charlotte dropped another tight match, this time against New England. The margin for error has become thin during this rough stretch.

26. Colorado Rapids

Colorado’s attack once again struggled to generate much pressure around goal. The Rapids have now slipped into one of the colder runs in the conference.

27. Portland Timbers

Portland’s inconsistency resurfaced in another flat performance against RSL. Too often, the Timbers struggle to build sustained momentum from one week to the next.

28. St. Louis City

St. Louis looks like a club searching for direction. The rebuild is obvious, particularly in the attack.

29. New York City FC

NYCFC turned in one of its poorest performances of the season in a home loss to D.C. United. Very little clicked across the full 90 minutes.

30. Montréal

Things continue to unravel for Montréal after another multi-goal defeat. Confidence appears low, and the defensive structure has become increasingly fragile.
